"My Life, My Dream," could be used as a personal maxim and a call to action. For some may mean living a life on their own terms, for others, they might try to find happiness, peace and success in their daily lives. For me, "My Life, My Dream," is the story of a woman who since she was a young child dreamed to become a social worker. She dreamed of helping her family, her community as she and her family were helped. It was because of that experience that her life and her dreams began to emerge. That experience gave her hope for a better future and promoted to fulfill and conquer that dream. She held onto that dream fiercely, hoping that one day, it would become a reality. As an adolescent, she continued dreaming and working towards that goal. Unfortunately, financial problems prevented it, Her life became static; her dreams were paralyzed. She was unable to attend high school, instead she was encouraged to learn dressmaking which had no place in her dreams, but in obedience to her mom pursued it. A couple of years later, in an effort to help her mother, who was in delicate health, she studied Practical Nursing although it was not part of her original dream. Despite of her initial reluctance, to learn dressmaking, that was one of the tools God had in store and was used to transform her life and guide her to achieve her dream. One day, a few years later, suddenly, life began to change, her dreams began to be awakened. The United States opened its borders to Ecuadorian citizens who had a profession or a vocational diploma, etc., and offered them a Resident Visa. The Dressmaking Diploma and the Practical Nurse Certificate were the tools which God had in store to open a new life, where her dreams could be fulfilled. In the United States, despite the difficulties on her path, such as language barriers, discrimination, physical illness, financial and occasional family problems: resting on God's love and wisdom and with strength, determination and hard work, her life has been blessed. Barriers have been broken, dreams have been fulfilled. Her entire life has been changed! At present she holds a Master in Social Work, a Professional Diploma in School's Administration and Supervision and a Ph.D. in Counseling. To God be the glory!
