A Certain Kind of Swagger honors a beloved poet and teacher, the late Christopher Bursk. With a forward by Bursk’s friend, the poet George Drew, it is a collection of poems under the rubric of “swagger,” Bursk’s theme for his last master class. “Swagger” was also a quality the late Bursk displayed in his classes, his poems, and his life. The poems were written during Bursk’s last semester (winter, 2021). It was his 37th annual workshop. Many of the participants attended each exciting winter week for multiple years, and several have gone on to successful writing lives. The wide variety and topics of poems in this collection are based on each of the 32 poets’ interpretation and choice of an “invitation,” which was Bursk’s name for a prompt. Periodically, between the poems, are ten quotes from Bursk’s extensive written notes handed out to the class. The Peace Center in Langhorne, PA, receives all proceeds from the sale of this book.
