Codenamed Lorraine, the computer that would become the Commodore Amiga originally started off life as a new 16-bit games console being developed for Atari. Designed by the team who had previously engineered the Atari 2600 VCS and Atari 400/800 computers, it worked on many of the same principles presenting a huge step up in power. With the turmoil of the Atari consumer division takeover by former Commodore owner Jack Tramiel in full flow, the Amiga team decided to switch sides and sell the machine to their previous employer’s biggest rivals instead. This caused Tramiel Atari to develop the 16-bit Atari ST computer in response, which somehow made it to market first, but the Amiga possessed far more powerful hardware. The initial machine that arrived in 1985, the A1000, failed to dislodge its rival, but when Commodore released the slim line and lower priced A500 everything, changed with the Amiga eventually winning the 16-bit computer war. Other new models followed including the tiny A600 and powerful A4000 before it was replaced by the 32-bit A1200 and CD32 console in 1993. These ultimately proved unsuccessful for Commodore in the wake of the many PC compatibles and the company filed for bankruptcy in 1994. Since then the Amiga name has changed hands numerous times but the ardent fan base have done everything they can to keep it alive. In this first book in the series I take you through the life of the Commodore Amiga range looking at a varied cross section of the 4000+ games available with a small review and screenshot of each one. This is not a list of the best games, a list of the worst or indeed a complete guide to what’s available. A Compendium of Commodore Amiga Games: Volume 1 is simply the first part of a meandering journey through the system’s vast back catalogue to give you a great cross-section of what the Amiga computers have to offer.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
