The Sega Master System is a console with a very interesting history indeed. It was originally released in Japan in 1985 as the Sega Mark III and was the follow up to the Mark I and Mark II, which are better known to most people as the SG-1000 (Sega’s first console). It took the existing hardware and added more memory, as well as a much-improved graphics chip, so it could better compete with Nintendo’s best selling Famicom console. When Nintendo released the Famicom as the NES in the west, Sega soon followed, skipping the SG-1000 hardware completely and renaming the Mark III as the Master System, where it would go head to head with the aforementioned NES as well as the Atari 7800 ProSystem. And the rest as they say is history. In this book we take you through the life of the Sega Master System and its predecessor the Sega SG-1000 looking at a varied cross section of the 400+ games available with a review and screenshot of each one. From classics released through the mid to late eighties onto modern homebrew titles and even some unreleased prototypes, there are games of all genres and styles here. With up to ten entries for each letter of the alphabet, this is not supposed to be a list of the best or the worst games; neither is it a complete guide to all that’s available. It is simply a meandering journey through the golden years of 8-bit console history, designed to interest both the dedicated fan and the casual reader alike. A Compendium of Sega Master System Games: Volume 1 is a celebration of the ever-popular console with nostalgic memories, expert opinions, interesting stories, trivia, developer interviews and so much more besides.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
