In this volume, Rey and Reymond offer a new critical edition of all the Hebrew manuscripts of Ben Sira from the Cairo Genizah and Dead Sea Scrolls (including the so-called "Rhyming" Paraphrase). Manuscripts are presented independently to preserve their unique qualities and to emphasize the text’s pluriformity. Readers will discover numerous new readings and restorations, explained in detailed notes, that illustrate Ben Sira’s complex textual composition. French and English translations together with a philological commentary help elucidate the sometimes obscure sense of the Hebrew. This edition will form the foundation for future work on the book of Ben Sira. Frédérique Michèle Rey , PhD (2006) Strasbourg and Leuven, is Professor of Exegesis at the Lorraine University in Metz, France. She is director of the Revue de Qumrân and her fields of research concern the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Jewish and Early Christian literature of the Hellenistic and Roman Period, and computational philology. Eric D. Reymond , PhD (1999) University of Chicago, is Senior Lector II in Biblical Hebrew at Yale Divinity School (Yale University). He is secrétaire of the Revue de Qumrân . His research concerns ancient Hebrew as well as the texts and poetry of the Second Temple era.
