Two Riders will rise. A single prophecy will destroy them both. A long-running rebellion against the Empire is tearing the continent of Artalu apart, plunging two young orphans—Uldrird and Kudrel—into a war older than creation. Uldrird, a barbarian of mysterious lineage; Kudrel, an Imperial soldier seeking his life’s purpose. And both are about to be transformed into the last Dragon Riders ever to walk this war-torn land. As the rebellion reaches its crisis, the pair’s loyalties will be sorely tested—by a god’s wrath, by the Emperor’s iron determination, by enslavement to dark powers, and by a struggle to reconcile virtue with duty, free will with destiny. And their dragons—the first to grace Artalu’s skies in centuries. Powerful, beautiful, vengeful, each indelibly bound to its Rider. Through those bonds flow thought, emotion, memory, and power…the power to free the world or bury it in darkness. Time is running out. Uldrird and Kudrel’s loyalties to the rebellion, the Empire, and themselves, ever shifting, will force them to make choices that will echo through time. A Dragon's Loyalties reimagines elements of classic fantasy, as its two protagonists try to discern whether loyalty should be defined by personal alliances or by a devotion to the greater good. It reveals hidden empires, perilous Magic, and the role of moral choices in a battle where light and darkness blur and every truth demands a sacrifice.
