A Gal Growing Up Green Creek is a collection of memories seen through the eyes of a young girl living in a small midwestern community in the 1960s and 70s. Green Creek was more than a place. It was a way of life. In the four-room schoolhouse Anita attended, the teachers played softball with their students after the dismissal bell rang. This book contains cherished recollections of a much simpler time when childrens' imaginations took them on journeys. These pages share a way of life now lost to time and memory. For readers who grew up in the country, this book may spark joyful memories or perhaps evoke a few tears. Those unfamiliar with rural life may discover a world outside their experience. Anita grew up in a small German farming community outside of Effingham, Illinois. The wind blew through her hair as she rode her bike up and down the hills. It was a time filled with laughter and joy. This carefree spirit nestled inside of her while she enjoyed teaching for 38 years. Upon retirement, the creative side of Anita exploded as she made a plethora of rag dolls, painted multitude of garden poles and sang with joy in her heart as she strummed the ukulele with any one of her many hats upon her head. Anita presently makes her home in Raleigh, North Carolina.
