He has been president of the Chesapeake Museum Board of Directors, served on the City of Chesapeake fortieth-anniversary committee and the Jamestown 2007 committee, and been an advisor to the Institute for Environmental Negotiation, University of Virginia Graduate School, among other honors. He has written eight books, including South Norfolk, Virginia, 1661-2005 (Volumes I, II, and III) for the History Press.
