Included are two pages to draw your own favorite pictures of Aruba. Growing up on her home island of Aruba with wonderful carefree sunny days, Laurie, a/k/a Lori Flying Fish, was a voracious reader. Books were a source of joy and entertainment. Their stories were magical and encouraged flights of imagination to far distant places filled with mystery, romance, drama, history and important ideas. She left Aruba to study in the States where she earned her Bachelor of Science as a fashion major from Drexel University and a Masters of Arts in Bi-Lingual/Bi-Cultural studies from La Salle University, both in Philadelphia. She is working on a collection of short stories about transitioning between cultures in the Caribbean and the United States. Laurie feels reading and writing are important skills and worthwhile activities for everyone, children and adults. She participated in the Lee County Literacy program as a tutor. Laurie published her first children's book, One Shining Starfish, in 2010 to introduce the little ones to their numbers, colors, and some of the ocean's wonderful sea creatures. Her second book, A is for Aruba, will be out early in 2012. A beautifully illustrated alphabet book for the whole family introduces Aruba's many treasures, letter by letter. A member of several art leagues, writers groups, and a camera club, Laurie is always involved with the many creative opportunities in the Cape Coral area.
