A Journey Through Lent starts on the Sunday before Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday. It takes you through Lent day by day and contains bible readings, pathways to prayer, reflections, Lent spiritual prompts and calls for action. Topics covered include ‘The Spiritual Desert Experience’. It can be used by an individual or in a Lent group. Lent is a journey - travelling with Jesus as he returns from temptation in the wilderness to his victory over death on the cross in Jerusalem. Together we can make the journey through Lent together, knowing that Jesus journeys with us. The price has been set low. All proceeds go to St James's Church Piccadilly.(https://www.sjp.org.uk/) The 'look inside' / 'download sample' option is set to the maximum. The Lenten journey is not for the faint hearted. If we are completely open to God this Lent, then expect hurt, expect pain. Our mediations and prayers through Lent will expose the fallacy of our identity constructs. A harsh light will be shone on our narcissism, our vanity, our superficiality and our hypocrisies, great and small. If after reading this you think that this does not apply to you then think again, as you have just demonstrated that it exactly applies to you. During Lent our vulnerabilities will be exposed. Above all, we will be shown how far we have wandered away from a living relationship with God and a Christ centred life. Fortunately it does not end there with us broken and exposed. With God’s grace and gentleness and with an open desire to change on our part, through our Lenten experience we are reconstructed in the image of Christ. Plans for Lent Sit, think, pray and write down what you want from Lent and what you think God wants for you from Lent. Think about what are my Lent Goals? This Lent think about: Fasting from selfishness and be compassionate to others. Fasting from anger and be filled with patience. Fasting from sadness and be filled with gratitude. Fasting from worries and trust in God. Fasting from complaining and be positive. Fasting from pressures and be prayerful. Fasting from pessimism and be filled with hope. Fasting from bitterness and forgive yourself and others. Fasting from grudges and be reconciled. Fasting from words and be quiet so you can listen. Fasting from hurting words and be kind. Lent’s ever-present question is ‘what shall we give up for Lent?’ but there is an alternative option: ‘What shall we do this Lent?’ Lent Spiritual Prompt Why do you think the Spirit led Jesus out into the wilderness to be tempted? In the desert of daily routine can you learn to find value in the humblest tasks? The desert experience of Lent lays bare our inner emptiness, detaches us, and can simplify a person’s life down to the bare essentials. In the spiritual desert we are confronted by all our baggage and dark spots. We resist going into the silence and quiet because we do not like what we see there. Prayer for the start of Lent Lord, help me to grow in faith and love as I journey through these next days of Lent, and may I be brought even closer to you in my life. Lord, you are my God and I am yours, may I never veer from the perfect path which you have set before me. Please be my rock and my strength. May this time be one of outward focus; seeking you in people and things I often ignore. Help me live a Lent focused on you and what you have to say to me and what you have to show me. Give me a heart hungry to serve you and those who need what I have to give. May the Lord Jesus Christ walk with you in in your journey through Lent Please consider leaving a positive review so that Christians may find this eBook.
