A North African Solution – Conquering Terrorism December, 1988 is highlighted by the bombing of an international flight from Europe to the United Sates. The plane was knocked out of the sky by a bomb placed on board as an express package going from a company in Europe to a company in the States. The world is not entirely sure who’s behind this atrocious act, but the heads of Intelligence in a number of countries know it almost certainly is Ajmal Muhamad Ibn Burhan al-Qureshi – President of Libya and the nefarious henchmen he uses to create terror and wreak havoc. Qureshi has been attempting to establish himself in a more favorable light with the political leaders in the Middle East and North Africa. He wants to walk a very narrow tightrope whereby everyone assumes it is Qureshi behind this but there is no clear cut or verifiable link between him and these acts. Part of his success is because he has been working through an extremely complicated network. It would not be a stretch to call this network Byzantine. This first airplane bombing is only the prelude leading to a much more intensely charged “next plane.” This one would be the pope’s charter going from Rome to England. Mike Cummins has been called, again by CIA Deputy Director and ex-USAF General Peter Reese, to identify the players trying to assassinate the pope all the while dealing with Intelligence agencies from various European countries. This has to be done under an extremely tight timetable with, obviously, no room for error. With Qureshi’s people operating throughout Europe and Mike and his small group With Qureshi’s people operating throughout Europe and Mike and his small group seemingly one or two steps behind them at all times, Mike needs to move faster than he is, much faster. This story has all the elements of intrigue and intense action as Lou’s earlier five books. This book has the added dimension of the leader of the four-billion-member Catholic Church being targeted. The action is non-stop and the twists and turns are what one expects from Lou’s writing – unpredictable scenarios and always thought provoking.
