The author's sincerity in describing the multiple forms of abuse she endured, makes the reader gasp in disbelief as her story unfolds. During this time, it is also discovered that there is a mental health component to Elizabeth's story because she is diagnosed as suffering from Bi-Polar Disorder. With this book, she would like to educate people about the insidious nature of abuse and mental illness and start a healthy dialogue about these topics. She feels strongly that these topics deserve more attention, in order to decrease the stigma associated with these issues, as well as to make the reader aware that most people managing mental illness can live perfectly normal and fulfilling lives.
