Star Valley was one of the last primitive areas of the country to be settled. While the rest of the country was moving into modern times, Star Valley was still in the covered wagon era. It grew quickly from its primitive status to where it caught up with the western society. This is the story of a family in the midst of that change. Harry was born in Fish Haven Idaho on the shores of Bear Lake. As a teenager he moved to Star Valley where he lived most of his life. Mae was born in Afton and lived there all of her life, leaving its confines only occasionally. Here they met, married and made their life together. To them nine children were born, but only four were to live to maturity. These children brought both love and heartache into their lives and they are an integral part of the story. They saw many wonderful things as the valley transitioned into our modern world. In their youth, they lived with horses as their ancestors had done for generations. But during their lives they encountered automobiles, airplanes and even spacecraft. This was a time of wonderful change and they were part of it.
