Matthew was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, during the middle of the twentieth century, in 1950. He lived surrounded by the Wasatch Mountains in the foothills of Mount Olympus. As part of the Baby Boomer generation, Matthew was a child of the 50's and matured into a teenager during the mid-60's. At the beginning of 1964, Matthew's family migrated to his mother's birthplace, San Francisco, California. He finished junior high school near the Pacific Ocean, and in high school, he became a musician playing in the rock and roll and rock bands of San Francisco. It was a historic time to be coming of age for a teenager from Mount Olympus.
