Improve your game by studying 1001 all-new checkmate exercises! This book presents 1001 checkmate exercises from recent tournament games. The exercises are easier than those contained in my book, 1001 Checkmate Exercises: Mastering An Essential Chess Skill (amazon.com/dp/B07BC9881W), and they are more suited to beginners or players who have little experience in chess. The book contains mate in 1 and 2 exercises. The mate in 1 exercises are split into two chapters. In the first chapter, the position is given just before the mate is possible, and the reader is required to find the mate. In the second chapter, the position is given before the losing move is made. The task is to visualise this move, and then to find the mate. Many of these exercises include bad blunders that thereby allow a checkmate. A supplementary exercise in these cases is for the reader to find a better move that can potentially avoid the checkmate, although this is not always possible. The format of the book means that the level of visualisation required to solve the exercises increases by one half-move (or ply in computer chess terms) with each chapter. Hence, the exercises gradually extend the reader's visualisation skills, as well as improving checkmating skills. The goal of each exercise is to find the quickest mate. In some positions, there may be several moves that lead to checkmate, but the quickest mate is required. There is only one first move for each exercise that achieves this goal. Detailed solutions are provided for all the exercises, and they have been computer-checked by several strong chess engines for accuracy. The book will be a valuable resource for beginners or players who have little experience in chess, and it will give the reader many hours of instruction and entertainment. This progression of difficulty allows a coach to see a student's Chess Vision Level and find the right type of Tactics to work with. My students are excited to do these as warm-up puzzles before I begin my Mini-Lessons." Mr. Jon Santos, Houston Chess Coach "Good course for beginners. I found it useful for speed running." National Master Elijah Logozar, professional chess coach and author, on Chessable "In my opinion (FIDE Elo of about 1500), every beginner should spend some time in solving these mates to make sure that you don't miss them in your own game. Stronger players can use this course to test their knowledge and make a speed run through this book." Ariskon on Chessable "It has all you can expect from a checkmate course." KhalifmanApostle on Chessable "This to me is a good book for practicing mates that does exactly what it says on the tin. The book is aimed at beginner level players and it hits the mark there. What is great about this book is that the positions have not been taken from master games, using amateur games instead. This makes for fresh positions compared to other practicing-mate books. Furthermore, the typical lopsided positions that occur often in amateur games (like my own) feature a lot in this book. This makes for great exercises that come closer to one's own games played. This is to me a big plus." MichelT on Chessable "Nice bunch of checkmates! Useful for tactical awareness when our clock is ticking down in an OTB game. I would like to again stress upon the fact by saying that BEGINNERS can highly benefit from this course!" skkeyan on Chessable "Excellent book for beginners. I recommend this book for beginners or if you have not played for a long time as is my case." Rafaelbt on Chessable "Good course for beginners. I found it useful for speed running."
