Triple Crown of Winter Endurance Trek freezing trails with tough endurance athletes braving hundreds of miles in winter's arduous elements: blowing snow, bitter temperatures, blustery winds. Discover polar secrets of these blizzardy behemoths. Face 366 miles of the big three of international winter ultras—Tuscobia Winter Ultramarathon, Arrowhead 135, Actif Epica. I raced the 35 mile version of the 150-mile Tuscobia Winter Ultras the year Roberto Marron became the first to double one of the mammoth endurance undertakings: He finished, arose the next morning and without support or crews or aid stations or any nonsense, he went out again and completed the course on his own. He became the first to double one of the big three winter ultras that, besides the Tuscobia races, include the Arrowhead 135 in Northern Minnesota, and the Actif Epica in Winnipeg. The characters he met, the incidents he faced, and just the sheer brutality of time on these frozen trails, appealed to my sense of adventure. Particularly since the 35-miles I finished just about did me in (I covered the distance in snowshoes). Once the word was out he was out there, everyone who understands these events wanted to know how it was going. FaceBook was abuzz as they say. A movie is under pre-production based on his successful completion of the double and things he might have or actually did imagine. Now if you don't care to brave those elements--I can assure you minus-30 will get your attention--read this book. Even warmed by a crackling fireplace, you'll want to wear a warm jacket.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
