365 Cakes and Cookies! This wonderful dusty old cook book is filled with recipes for scrummy sweet treats - cakes, pastries, cookies, gingerbreads - all sorts of good, old-fashioned and classic homemade baked goods. Each section is a different month of the year, from January to December, with a treat for each day of the month. December is filled all manner of festive yummies perfect for the Holidays and for Christmas gift-giving. Old time classics like Apple Cake, Gingerbread, Cinnamon Jumbles, Fruit Cake, and lots more. The book is filled with stripped down recipes in the old fashioned narrative style they used to write recipes in. Each recipe lists what ingredients you need, not always the exact quantity, and there are usually no oven temperatures, etc, due to the advanced age of the text - but I'm sure you can figure it out! It was expected, in those olden days, that all women / housewives would know how long to cook, say, a basic flour cake, or a cookie - or "cooky" as they call them in the book! First published in 1904, the recipes are taken from the kitchens of Marion Harland, Mrs. Lincoln, Good Housekeeping, Table Talk, and others. PLEASE NOTE : As with all reprinted books of this age that are intended to perfectly reproduce the original edition, considerable pains and effort had to be undertaken to correct fading and sometimes outright damage to existing proofs of this title. At times, this task can be quite monumental, requiring an almost total rebuilding of some pages from digital proofs of multiple copies. Despite this, imperfections still sometimes exist in the final proof and may detract slightly from the visual appearance of the text.
