After leaving NASA, Shearer became an assistant principal and later a principal in the La Porte, Texas schools, a position she held for 10 years. She has written trade books for schools, and is also a curriculum developer and a professional development trainer. Gregory Vogt has written many books about Earth, space, and space exploration, including several for children and young adults.
