Children thrive on practical learning opportunities. After more than 34 years of instructing students in the science classroom I can attest that some of the most thrilling experiences they ever had were the discoveries they made while using the compound microscope. Their joy was palpable, whether it was simply seeing salt crystals form on a slide for the first time or watching an amoeba devour a nearby organism. This book includes 5 7 easy-to-follow microscope activities that I personally used in the classroom as a science teacher. In addition, more than 100 science projects suggestions related to those activities are included. Each activity is structured to be used in the classroom by teachers and also designed to be used by parents and students independently. Each activity included in this book includes: 1. An activity title along with a description of the activity’s objective(s) 2. A Listing of the materials and the tools required. 3. Step by step instructions 4. Safety precautions 5. Discussion questions: Including open-ended questions related to the activity. 6. Activity Related Science Project Suggestions If you’re teacher looking for engaging STEM activities to incorporate into lesson plans – this book is for you. The book was purposely designed in an 8 x 11 page format to simplify the photocopying of pages for classroom use. If you’re a parent wanting to encourage curiosity and a love for learning in your child - this book is for you. And last but not least if you’re a student interested in science or searching for a microscope related science project–this book is also for you. Note: This book was written by George H. Boyd, a former science teacher in the South Huntington School District on Long Island, New York. Mr. Boyd spent the majority of his 34-year teaching career devoted to the science education of gifted children. He presently holds two master’s degrees in science - one of which is a master’s degree in science education. In addition, Mr. Boyd owned and operated the S.M.S. Optical Company established in 1972 for more than 45 years – a company specializing in the sale of microscopes and the servicing of microscopes for schools, industry and the medical profession.
