G is for Guru. H is for Hijab. M is for Menorah. P is for Prayer. In ABCs of the World’s Religions, kids travel around the world and across the centuries exploring the beauty of the world’s major faith traditions. Learn along with kids as you explore sacred spaces, holydays, and rituals in several different religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Left-hand pages offer rhyming couplets that explain the basic concepts. Right-hand pages offer additional information, including similarities and differences across religious traditions. Using a non-devotional, age-appropriate approach, ABCs of the World’s Religions is great for anyone interested in developing religious literacy and cultural competency in kids age 4-10. Perfect for parents and grandparents, as well as educators in public schools, private schools, or faith communities. ABCs of the World's Religions broadens a child's perspective on the world and different cultures. This book is the perfect tool to educate young minds on the diversity of beliefs and traditions found throughout the globe. By introducing children to different religions at an early age, they can promote understanding, respect, and tolerance for all cultures....Rev. Vicki Michela Garlock has written an educational masterpiece that celebrates the many religions of the world with beautiful illustrations and engaging descriptions of holidays and rituals. ~ Midwest Book Review Rev. Vicki Michela Garlock, Ph.D., has found the perfect medium to teach young readers about the various religions of the world and their respective traditions and rituals. ABCs of the World's Religions is an educational book that is also fun to read. Garlock's rhyming verses are superbly complemented by the vibrant illustrations and artwork by Raman Bhardwaj....Although ABCs of the World's Religions primarily targets kids below ten, I think even adults will find a lot to learn in this engaging educational book. ~ 5-Star Review from Readers' Favorites Garlock explains each concept clearly and concisely, relaying an impressive amount of information in bite-sized portions....Garlock not only spreads knowledge but also expertly weaves in a broader message of inclusivity, love, and acceptance in the process. ~ Kirkus This book was so fun to write! The hardest part was deciding which words would be highlighted for which letter, and I continue to get a lot of feedback and interesting guesses about my final selections. As you will notice, one of my goals is to help children (and their adults) recognize both the similarities and differences across the world's religions. My illustrator, Raman Bhardwaj, also did a fantastic job of bringing these faith traditions to life. Although I work hard to be age-appropriate, I know from experience that kids are more than capable of thinking about the world's faith traditions. So, enjoy exploring with them. As always, I love feedback from readers, so lemme know what you think! Thank you for shareing the beauty of the world's religions with kids! As our communities become increasingly diverse, we appreciate your passion for creating a kinder and more peaceful world. Several major faith traditions - including Hinduism, Budhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Sikhism - are explored in this book. Left-hand pages have rhyming couplets that are great for preschoolers-kindergarteners. Right-hand pages offer additional information that kids in elementary school (and their grown-ups) will find interesting. And, as you will see, similar ideas often show up in more than one tradition! My absolute favorite activity is helping kids explore the beauty of the world's religions. Plus, being a "global citizen" and future peacemaker means knowing something about how the world's beliefs and practices have shaped both history and culture. Many times, we teach children the same way we teach adults, but I've developed a different approach...the use of story. All of the world's faith traditions have a narrative history...myths and legends that teach how the world came to be and how we might live into our best selves. That's what I focus on. And, as it turns out, it's a great way for adults to learn, too! As far as qualifications go, I have a Ph.D. with dual specialties in neuroscience and cognitive development, I was ordained as Minister of Education at Jubilee! Community Church in Asheville, NC, where I developed an interfaith Sunday School curriculum for kids age 3 through 8th grade, and I live an interfaith spiritual life. My books are geared to families, teachers, and faith communities interested in fostering pluralism, religious literacy, and a deeper understanding of the world around us. Thanks for joining me on this amazing journey!
