AVERY PORTAGE – a Miramichi Journey trek before the Stagecoach Days This portage route is a border between these two distinct Aboriginal nations. Micmacs to the north and Maliseets in the south. This book covers stories recorded from present day elders that will stay on record forever. It is necessary to focus on one ancient portage route as it contains many scholars that walked, canoed, horse driven experiences that four reserves in Miramichi can benefit. This route would have lead British and French forces to Northern New Brunswick. It is anticipated before the stagecoach runs in 1830s that these routes were the major routes travelled inland. The stories of those who travelled portages will be described in detail to replay their journeys.
