A collection of stories beginning with the finding of a baby burro in a ghost town. The baby burro grows up using her very big ears to listen to what is going on in the family's home. Connie the burro, or donkey often finds herself to be a source of amusement to adults and children alike. She becomes famous for her hee haws! Frequently you would hear her before you saw her. About the Author The author, SJ Eckert aka Mama Tila is shy and doesn’t like to write about herself, so as the illustrator, let me paint a picture of my friend Sheila. Sheila has the biggest heart for animals and people, in that order! Our book reflects her actual life as a young wife of a veterinarian, who worked very closely with “Papa Lee”, as a RVT, (Registered Veterinary Technician) at his clinic. Presently she still maintains a plethora of animal medicine knowledge, and donates her time to various animal welfare organizations. I actually DID live next door to Sheila. Her home and grounds, both were full of different kinds of animals, and Papa Tom was always a source of entertainment for a good laugh. Having a zoo next door was in itself quite the education for this city girl who had no experience with the animals I encountered, most who were escapees from Sheila’s home. Sheila became a teacher later in life and there is evidence in the book of her wanting every situation to be a teachable moment. This too, is a hallmark of who Sheila is. Sheila is just plain fun with a wacky sense of humor. She “found her voice” for her book when she talked through her donkey, Calico Connie. Connie and Sheila actually are kindred spirits, full of sport and mischief! I still remember in the mornings when I opened my back door and stepped onto the porch, Connie always greeted with her bellowing Hee Haws that could be heard up and down our lane.
