Adventures of the Heart: A Life Well-Lived By Betsy Lydle Smith In Betsy Lydle Smith’s lifelong journey to seek adventure, family, home, spirituality, and her true spirit, the author shares personal vignettes on life-changing experiences in her long and rich life. Growing up in an idyllic town in Western New York, with beloved grandparents and a happy childhood, her adventures include taking her first airplane ride across the country at twenty-one, meeting her future husband on the beach, and driving off into the night with three on a motorcycle. In her twenties, she embarked on a solo European journey, knocking on doors to find a job, skiing the Alps, and touring Russia behind the Iron Curtain. Betsy learned about resilience and ill-fated love. For thirty years, her women’s circle developed and supported deep friendships, truth-telling, and mid-life crises with ever-abiding love. Highlighting special friends and family members, while seeking a life of purpose and spiritual guidance, Betsy cared for her 97-year-old mother and made peace with her alcoholic father. With husband Pete Smith, Betsy raised two daughters and welcomed five grandchildren. In their seventies, they left their beloved family for a new home in the Arizona desert. In this memoir, Betsy shares what is most important to her, including family, friends, and work, as she explores the meaning of home.
