Jack Elton was having a rough time dealing with his unfair banishment from the Vancouver Police Force and trying to settle into the lonely life of a P.I. until the morning the dead body of a young, pregnant Asian woman is found stabbed to death in the offices of Biggs, Wilberforce, Hutton and Small. The police and the employees of the firm are mystified at the murder―no one seems to know who she is, or why she was in the building that night. All evidence points to Brendan Biggs, a partner in the advertising firm, but Biggs insists he has never seen the girl before. The police are putting the pressure on, so in an act of desperation, Biggs calls on his old friend Jack to help out. A job accepted grudgingly to help out a friend turns into an adventure for the aspiring private eye, as he must determine the victim’s identity, that of her assailant, and the motive for the gruesome crime, while delving into the unfamiliar and closed-to-strangers Asian community of Vancouver, Canada. ADVERTISING MURDER began as a word picture. I only had in mind the image of an empty office early on a sunny morning. The idea sat until November 2003 when I was undergoing some treatment for cancer and needed to take some time for recovery. I decided to write. That image evolved into a NaNoWriMo project and resulted in more than 50,000 words in 30 days. It also became a crime scene. With the help of the book's first publisher, the final edit went to press two years later. I write with no preconceived outline and enjoy 'discovering' the plot as I go. Jack Elton evolved into the main protagonist for the succeeding books of the series. If you start with this book, you will be in at the beginning of the Jack Elton Mystery Series. If you read the second in the series, LOST YOUTH, you'll discover the answer to the question that my first reviewer asked above. I am thankful that AMAZON has taken on the publishing of ADVERTISING MURDER in its present formats. Robert (Bob) Scott is an author and pastor.
