Alexander Light Bulb is a very bright boy—literally. His hair glows with a warm, magical light that lets him stay up late reading long after bedtime. Books are his favorite treasures, and the worlds inside them feel as real and exciting as anything outside his window. One ordinary morning on his way to school, Alexander meets a very extraordinary cat—a small black cat with bright green eyes and a creaky voice who can talk… though he very rarely chooses to. The cat explains that talking is dangerous because it leads to thinking, which leads to jobs, which leads to taxes. Alexander finds this slightly reasonable and mostly funny, but he is far more interested in showing the cat why thinking can also lead to wonderful things. When the cat says he doesn’t care about space, Alexander decides there is only one solution: show him. With a flash of brilliant light from his glowing hair, Alexander magically transports them both into space. From there begins an unforgettable journey through the solar system. Together they explore: The Moon – quiet, gray, and close to home. - Pluto and its moon Charon – tiny, icy, and full of secrets. - The Gas Giants – Jupiter with its Great Red Spot, Saturn with its shimmering rings, and the blue worlds of Uranus and Neptune. - The Rocky Inner Planets – Mercury’s heat, Venus’s crushing atmosphere, Mars’s ancient valleys, and finally, the beautiful blue Earth. Along the way, Alexander teaches the cat about planets, orbits, storms, volcanoes in space, icy oceans beneath moons, dwarf planets, asteroids, and the incredible scale of the universe. The cat, in turn, offers humor, skepticism, and the occasional request for fish. But the greatest lesson of all is that the universe—vast, strange, quiet, and breathtaking—is worth exploring, worth wondering about, and worth dreaming of. By the time the pair drifts gently back down to the curb where their journey began, the cat has gained a new appreciation for thinking (though not for taxes), and Alexander has made a new friend who now sees the world—and the sky above it—a little differently. Book One ends with a friendly scientific epilogue explaining the enormous distances of space, how long it would take to reach the Moon or Pluto by car, why we need rockets, and how imagination and curiosity help us explore worlds far beyond our own. Book One: The Planets sets the tone for the entire Alexander Light Bulb series: magical, gentle, humorous adventures grounded in real science, told through the eyes of a boy whose brightest power is his curiosity.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
