Special attention is given to various complex grammatical nuances of the Koine Greek. Because these nuances are often left untranslated, the character, style, liveliness, or urgency of the original language can be overlooked. For this reason, you will hear the preacher say, “The Greek is saying….” This translation conveys these nuances, enabling the English reader to better understand the character, style, liveliness, or urgency of the author’s original words, which may even unlock additional applicable concepts. Of particular concern are the imperative and subjunctive moods, verb tenses, the participle, and various terms that may be difficult to express fully in a single English word. For example, when Jesus said, “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing,” Luke used the imperfect active indicative, which speaks of a continuous or repetitive past action such as, “Jesus had been saying,...” versus Matthew’s use of the singular punctiliar action of the aorist active indicative when “Jesus yelled out in a loud voice, saying, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” This 2nd edition includes additional cross-references, annotations, and theological notes in the Commentary Appendix.
