American Government in Black and White: Diversity and Democracy , Seventh Edition, is a unique introduction to American government that uses racial and ethnic equality as its underlying theme. Through the course of teaching students the standard topics about the American governmental system and politics, authors Paula D. McClain and Steven C. Tauber address issues of inequality in major facets of government including the U.S. Constitution, key American political institutions and instruments of political behavior, and the making of public policy. Using the original voices of racial and ethnic actors in our nation's history, they show students how to measure and evaluate the quest for and importance of equality in America, from its founding up to today. "A good introductory American politics textbook that applies a racial lens to the issues. It focuses on race in every aspect of American politics rather than treating it as a niche topic."--Klara Fredriksson, Beloit College "This text takes a balanced approach to the issues that diverse communities face and have faced without neglecting the important material necessary for an introductory course. It provides a thorough examination of the topic that students need."--Charley Jacobs, St. Norbert College "A comprehensive and engaging introduction to American Government with the premise of exclusion and the extensive coverage of current issues in a comparative perspective (i.e., from one administration to another)."--Elizabeth Overman, University of Central Oklahoma American Government in Black and White: Diversity and Democracy is the only American government text that examines politics through the lens of racial inequality Paula D.
