American Safari is the historical and inspirational story of the author’s journey to find the headwaters of his maternal ancestors, Jarret and Kiziah (Browning) Harvey and trace the roots of their progeny. Jarret and Kiziah are his great-great grandparents and the oldest known Harvey ancestors. These descendants of Africans were enslaved, born in Georgia, taken to Mississippi where seven of their nine children were born; the family eventually got their freedom in Texas. In 1976, Alex Haley, awakened the world to search for their ancestors after publishing and televising “Roots”. Dr. Favors was one of the awakened ones. In 1977 at the funeral of his favorite uncle in Ft. Worth, Texas, an unknown cousin, Lois Cooper White said most of the funeral attendees were Harvey descendants and kin. That revelation stoked an unquenchable thirst and began his over 40-year quest to find his ancestors.
