This book began as my life story originating in Partium, an insignificant strip of land in Central Europe shaped by frontiers that never held, and by empires which taxed it more than they claimed it. My exodus from my native Partium to Israel, then to the United State and back to Hungary in search of a better life, my life’s story became a reflection on aging, and the magic of becoming who I was meant to be with three citizenships under my belt. Alongside legal migrant tales of displacement and reinvention, you'll find my meditations on golf, the wisdom of imaginary friends, and attempts to find the meaning of life at old age. This book is less a travelogue and more a tribute to the long, scenic, and absurd route from a place to a status and to the occasionally ridiculous people we become as we age. The new status is equally fascinating, as retirement is either desired or feared, depending on how active folks relate to their jobs. From mall-walkers to book-walkers and to golf-course philosophers who ponder immortality between swings, my observations are peppered with humor and Partiumian skepticism. In this search of meaning and understanding of senior life, I struggled with an illness called the Multiple Citizenship Disorder and found healing from the Multiple Lost Pensions Syndrome. For the rest of my younger readers, these part-true, part-fictional pursuits for the meaning of life could give something to look forward to as they grow older.
