St. Robert Bellarmine, S.J. (1542-1621), patron saint of catechists, wrote An Explanation of the Apostles’ Creed to help the faithful better understand their faith. Drawing on the teachings of Scripture, the Fathers of the Church, and St. Thomas Aquinas, Bellarmine explains each of the twelve articles of the Apostles’ Creed. He offers his readers not only a thorough doctrinal explanation but also a spiritual reflection on our Catholic faith. Bellarmine’s zeal for the salvation of souls is clearly exhibited in this small work.
