This is the personal and professional story of Don Travis, an engineer who grew up in the small farming community of Crawford, Texas. Don received his BSEE from the University of Texas at Austin and his MSEE from the University of Houston. He joined NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center in 1962 and quickly became immersed in preparations to achieve President Kennedy's goal of landing man on the moon and returning him safely to earth before the end of the 1960's. He received numerous commendations for his role in verifying that the communications system would support lunar landing missions, for his role in the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project and for his role in developing the Space Shuttle. After leaving NASA in 1984, Don spent over 20 years supporting the Johnson Space Center from various Lockheed Martin management positions.
