Perhaps what makes a cave so mysterious, is the fact that we can seldom see what is inside it until we enter it. Many artists use caves in their artwork to add intrigue, or cast a sense of foreboding into the atmosphere. Caves can fill us with wonder, mesmerize us with their intricate beauty, or terrify us with their tight confines. I've left out the latter, focusing only on those of beauty and unique qualities that artists look for when considering them for artwork. Grottoes, in contrast to caves, are typically open and inviting. Even some of those found within caves are often filled with brilliant colors that we don't necessarily find outside of their body of water. Some are small, just big enough for a lone swimmer, while others are large enough to drive a boat through. Either way, I'm sure you'll find something in this collection of caves and grottoes to inspire you! We'd love to see your finished art work.
