A versatilemix of different green and purple basil varieties.
Fill a 6-10” pot or a window box planter with drainage holes in the bottom, with a well-draining and nutrient-rich soil.
Moisten the soil, but do not make it soggy.
Make grooves about 1/5” deep in the soil, spaced 2-3” apart and sow the seeds on top of the soil, in the grooves.
Gently sprinkle a thin layer of potting mix over the seeds, but do not cover them with more than 1/4” of soil. Do not press the seeds down into the soil.
Mist the soil with a spray bottle to water the seeds.
Place the container in a location with 5-6 hours of sunlight or 10 hours of artificial light per day.
During the growing period, use weak liquid fertilizer weekly to provide the plants with nutrients.
Once flower buds appear, pinch them off to stimulate leaf growth and flavor development. If allowed to flower, the basil leaves can become bitter.
