An Astrologickal RitualIntroductionThe RitualAfterwordResourcesBibliographyIndexAbout the Author CHAPTER 1 THE LANGUAGE OF ASTROLOGY The Basics In the craft, astrology is considered a "high magick." Wiccans are encouraged tohave a familiarity with astrology, know their own birthcharts and so forth. Yetthere is little available in the "craft manuals" to allow average Wiccans accessto astrology as it pertains to magick. Wiccans must be astrologers—and morespecifically astrologers with moderate understanding of natal, horary, electional and possibly mundane astrology—to use the art as recommended by manywell-known Wiccan and magickal writers and teachers. This book is meant to fillthat void—to make this type of astrology accessible to all who are willing tostudy, but not interested in becoming astrologers themselves. With this book, and an astrological almanac (or calendar), and an ephemeris (often included inthe almanac), you can tailor the timing of rituals so as to maximize the effector desired outcome. Technically this is a horary/electional astrology book fornon-astrologers, who are magicians. There is a lot of strange stuff out there which calls itself astrology. But whatmost of the "regular" astrologers deal with is called natal astrology, alsocalled genetheliacal (which just means "natal" in Latin or some other language—itjust sounds more mysterious and important.) Most astrologers don't evenqualify the kind of astrology they practice if they mean natal, as if that isall there is. I will discuss some aspects of natal astrology that are useful. You can get your chart calculated by computer, or you can have a real liveastrologer calculate and interpret your natal chart for you. Your choice. But you don't need a natal chart for a good portion of this book. I will alsoNOT teach you how to cast or interpret a chart yourself. Too many other goodbooks out there which do that. I will expect a minimal familiarity withastrology: I will give brief descriptions of the signs, but from a magickalperspective, the "plain ol" interpretations are also widely available. I haveenough to cover without starting with basics. If you are unsure you can benefitwithout the basics, don't worry; fully half of the techniques in this bookrequire little or no math and a third don't
