This well researched book chronicles the history of Avon Park Lakes, a residential community just north of Avon Park, Florida. Planned and launched in the middles of the 1950s, it has grown from almost no residents into more than 2,500 people today. This history is well documented and this book has numerous maps, photos and aerial/satellite images to enhance it. Bill Pollard was raised in Kansas and graduated with an M.S. in journalism from the University of Kansas. He moved to Florida in 1997 and settled in Highlands County in 2002. He has lived in Avon Park Lakes since 2003 and was appointed to the Highlands County Historic Preservation Commission in 2013. He became its chairman in 2015. He has written two books about Kansas history. He is currently working on a book about scams and a book about Kansas history before statehood was granted in 1861.
