The war that was forced upon Israel on October 7th, 2023, exposed several deeply rooted concepts underlying Israel’s “new way of war” developed by the defense establishment and decision-making systems over the past forty years. This book was originally intended to be published before the war broke out, serving as a glaring red warning sign to Israeli society and its military-political leadership. It summarizes the work of the Kohelet National Security Forum, led by Dr. Yair Ansbacher over the course of five years. However the war upended everything. Ansbacher found himself fighting as a reservist in an elite counter-terrorism unit during the brutal battles of containment and clearance in southern Israel on that fateful Saturday, October 7th. He was horrified to discover that the dreadful scenario he had feared and warned about in this book had become a reality. Nonetheless, from the moment the war began, Ansbacher firmly believed that the tide had turned — that the God of Israel was granting the Jewish people a profound opportunity not only to save themselves, but to transform Israel into a renewed global power. From this perspective, the second part of the book was written focusing on the strategic steps Israel must take to win — and to emerge into a new, rectified regional and global reality. Dr. Yair Ansbacher wrote his doctoral dissertation on special operations and their contribution to modern warfare. He is a graduate of several elite IDF units and serves as a consultant to the Israeli security establishment.
