Baseball From 3,000 Miles Away: The Trials, Tribulations, and Triumphs of Being an East Coast San Francisco Giants Fan is a unique look at the lifelong fandom of a Giants enthusiast who never called San Francisco home. This “memoir” looks at my fanaticism of the San Francisco Giants starting as a young boy, then an adult, and finally a person on the verge of becoming a senior citizen. As a child of the 1960s, following a team across the country was a very difficult task. The lack of media proved to be the main issue. The hurdles were enormous. To say one had to work harder than a hometown fan would be an understatement. As the years rolled on, technology changed, which made it much easier to follow the team. Today, you only need to turn on one of a multitude of communication devices to follow a team. Back in the day though, I learned to survive and actually thrive rooting for my team despite the difficulty of the times. For some fifty-plus years I have followed this team from afar. I had many downs along the way with many trials and tribulations detailed in this book. The triumphs, though, far outweighed any of the problems I incurred along my pilgrimage. My years of being unrewarded finally came to an end after a long wait. Any of my hurt following this team has long dissipated as winning has a way of masking everything and anything. My unique perspective takes into account the decades I spent following the team from 3,000 miles away. Take a look back down memory lane with me as I harken back to the days of yesteryear with great passion and introspection. Each decade will focus on my involvement with the Giants from the day. Seminal games I attended are discussed in great detail. The length one goes to getting a baseball score and finding out about your team are thoroughly dissected. I also recount balancing my family obligations with my passion for the Giants. My journey with the Giants finally becoming world champions, and their bringing the World Series trophy to New York City three times, is celebrated and honored to no end. And I write about being recognized by the Giants as the leader of the New York Giants Preservation Society, which has become a vital source of information and entertainment to hundreds of our members and baseball fans at large. Baseball From 3,000 Miles Away: The Trials, Tribulations, and Triumphs of Being an East Coast San Francisco Giants Fan will connect with so many fans who might have had some similar experiences to mine. The longtime baseball fan will relate to my experiences, while new fans will realize the difficulty it was rooting for a team not in your own backyard. My enjoyment in detailing my experiences following the Giants will resonate with all baseball fans everywhere!
