Iranian refugee Mehran Karimi Nasseri actually resided at Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport from August 1988 to July 2006. Sir Alfred Mehran, is a unique character whose experiences were so fascinating that Steven Spielberg created a successful film, "The Terminal," on them. He spent nearly two decades at Terminal 1 of the Charles de Gaulle Airport because the authorities forbade him from leaving the airport. He was denied entry because he had misplaced his passport and other important papers while en route from Paris to London. He then made his way back to Paris, but because he lacked any formal documents, the police detained him as soon as he arrived. He was nevertheless freed despite having nowhere to go because he had entered Paris lawfully. He decided to stay in Terminal 1's departure lounge as that was the only location where he could do so lawfully. He was suddenly no longer a citizen of any country and was no longer a claimant. The "loneliest man in the world," Mehran Karimi Nasseri, is best known for spending 18 years living in an airport. The Terminal Man, Nasseri's autobiography, was released in 2004 by Nasseri and British novelist Andrew Donkin. He wrote a wonderful autobiography, according to The Sunday Times.
