Starting capacitors are used in refrigeration compressors, heat pumps, and other heavy-duty and frequently-started motors,to provide 300% starting torque.
If your new or old compressor won't start, try installing this hard-start capacitor before doing anything else.
Starting an air conditioner or heat pump compressor (reciprocating and scroll) requires an extra electrical "shock" to start.
Equipment requiring hard-start capacitors: heat pump or condenser split systems with (TXV) installed.
Old heat pump or condenser that is mechanically stuck and not working.
Installation Notes
2-wire connection:The two-wire hard-start kit is connected in parallel with the run capacitor for Permanently Split Capacitor (PSC) type compressors;
and connects to the start and run terminals on the compressor for Capacitor Start Induction Run (CSIR) type compressors. A third connection to the common wire is not required.
Notice:
Check the model number on the compressor (printed on the nameplate on the side of the compressor) to determine the tonnage of the unit.
