"The most absobring cop memoir you will read this year--maybe ever." - TJ English, NY Times Bestselling author (Havana Nocturne, The Westies). Retired Homicide Detective Ramesh Nyberg describes in rich detail his remarkable journey growing up in Miami as the child of an Indian school teacher and Swedish boat-builder. Nyberg considers Miami his only real sibling, and weaves jarring stories of murder and cocaine smugglers into poignant memories of his childhood and life lessons he learned sailing the waters of south Florida. Ramesh spares no details as he brings the reader into crime scenes and the horrors of real violence, while also conveying the ironies and often humorous aspects of law enforcement. This book is filled with riveting stories, bizarre and often dangerous pursuits of violent offenders, heart-wrenching scenes of grieving families, and gripping behind-the-scenes descriptions of suspects' confessions. The book flashes back frequently to pivotal moments of Ramesh's childhood that luminesce later in his life as guiding lessons in his career as a law enforcement officer. This is unlike any police memoir in existence; it is brutal, honest, and revealing, highlighting a colorful--and violent--time in Miami's history that will likely never occur again. Fascinating...exemplary in its voice and writing style...the author writes with a gripping storytelling style...we wander in and out of reality, meeting unique and sometimes scary individuals. Throughout the book, we wonder how can things like this happen. (This memoir) is remarkably impactful. - Judge, 12th Annual Writer's Digest Self-Published E-book Awards A fascinating and insightful memoir from a highly skilled homicide detective who happens to be a terrific writer. A few pages into this book and you will know that you are in the hands of a top-notch storyteller. Nyberg provides the kind of detail you might find in a detective's notebook, but he renders his memories of an especially crime-ridden era in Miami with wit and humanity. Badge, Tie and Gun is the most absorbing cop memoir you will read this year - or maybe ever. Get this book. -- T.J. English, New York Times best-selling author of Havana Nocturne and Dangerous Rhythms "Badge, Tie and Gun - Life and Death Journeys of a Miami Detective" is a gripping, deeply personal memoir that transcends the typical boundaries of a police autobiography. Brutally honest, richly detailed, and at times unexpectedly poetic, it offers an unfiltered look at the life of a Miami homicide detective who has seen both the darkest corners of humanity and the redemptive power of compassion and memory. Nyberg paints a vivid portrait of Miami—not just as a setting, but as a living, breathing character in his life. He calls the city his "only real sibling," and through his eyes, readers experience Miami in all its contradictions: beautiful yet violent, diverse yet divided, vibrant yet haunted by crime and cocaine-fueled chaos. Unlike many police memoirs that focus solely on the adrenaline of the job, "Badge, Tie and Gun" delves into the cost of carrying that badge—the psychological scars, the small victories, and the search for meaning in a profession built around tragedy. Nyberg's voice is that of a man who has seen it all but still believes in decency, truth, and the lessons carried from one's past. - Pratibha Malav, Author of If Tomorrow Comes , and A Kind of Commitment Ramesh Nyberg was born in India in 1958 and arrived in the U.S. on New Year's Day, 1959 on a freighter.
