Balance is one of the most common problems affecting older people. While many people in their 70s and 80s suffer from shaky balance now and then, impaired balance is not a part of normal aging, but instead is the consequence of multiple underlying health conditions. Dizziness, one of the most common causes of balance problems and reasons for doctor visits in older people, is also the product of multiple health conditions. A Balancing Act has been written to help older people-- who may be experiencing problems with balance and dizziness--understand what is going on and identify possible solutions. Becoming knowledgeable about the causes of balance loss and dizziness can help older people to get around, stay independent, and carry out their daily activities safely.
