"This is a great book for both experienced and beginning leaders looking for a fresh outlook on the leadership development cannon." Jon Kaplan, Principal & Founder, Corvantus Consulting and former CLO, Discover Card “Success without balance is often more disastrous than failure with balance.” So begins Dr. Andrew Temte’s collection of candid observations on the challenges facing business leaders today. From top student to high school dropout, from aspiring rock star to successful business leader, Temte shares lessons learned on the importance of balance in all aspects of life and work.  Balancing Act explores the characteristics required of a new generation of leaders who must find balance between strength and vulnerability; confidence and selflessness; passion and measure; single mindedness and inclusivity; determination and curiosity; and leadership and followership. He stresses that balance is a journey, not a destination. In Balancing Act, readers will learn: How to identify and curtail organizational entropy - How leaders can facilitate a culture of trust - How to realize the benefits of a diverse organization by fostering a culture that encourages everyone to bring their ‘whole self’ to work.  - How embarking on a continuous improvement journey can result in more balanced individuals, teams and organizations.  We are all seeking opportunity, joy, and purpose; the commitment to “teach, coach, mentor, and inspire,” is a contribution we can all make as we seek balance in our workplace and home life. Kate Eberle Walker, CEO, PresenceLearning and author of The Good Boss "After 50 years in business, I got lots of good ideas from Andrew Temte's book. You will too." Donald E. Graham, Chairman, Graham Holdings Company When I planted the initial seeds for this work in 2017, the goal was to compile a series of "Tales from a Mid-level Senior Executive" to describe the challenges and opportunities that face leaders who must manage up, down, and across complex organizations. As the cornerstones were laid, it quickly became apparent that the concept of balance was the thread that tied my personal and professional stories together. We all live in a state of imbalance. Our subconscious minds work continually to help us correct and adjust as we move forward in our daily lives, but we rarely make the time to consciously contemplate how we return to center. Becoming more aware of the balancing acts we constantly play between work and life, technical and behavioral skill, and standardization versus individuality will help us to be better colleagues, leaders, friends, and family members. Polarization, fixed mindsets, and operational silos are destructive to corporate value and damage business relationships. My aim is to elevate the concepts of self-awareness, mental agility, active listening, two-way communication, and bringing one's 'whole self' to work to drive improved alignment and outcomes for both the organization and its people. Join me on my personal journey to teach, coach, mentor and inspire current and future leaders as we all work to find balance between strength and vulnerability; confidence and selflessness; passion and measure; single mindedness and inclusivity; determination and curiosity; and leadership and follow
