An alumna of Bucknell and Stanford universities, Marcie Carroll was a reporter for UPI and several California newspapers, including the San Francisco Chronicle. She was a magazine editor, communications director for Hawaii Visitors Bureau and editor for Historic Hawaii Foundation, as well as freelance writer for various travel publications. Award-winning journalist and photographer Rick Carroll, formerly of the San Francisco Chronicle, roamed the Pacific for 20 years, photographing Easter Island statues, oceanic Badjao tribes of the Sulu Sea, and archaeology sites of French Polynesia. He is the author of 20 books including IZ: Voice of The People, the biography of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.
