I created this guide as a training aid for new Division Supervisors, Trainees, and Task Force leaders aspiring to be a Division Supervisor. This document is based on my 30 years working as a Division Supervisor, and 45 years total fire experience on over 650 fires all over our country. I included a lot of basic information in this document, but I feel it is all important. My goal is that the new Division Supervisor would utilize this instructional document as a cheat sheet of guidelines to follow. When I have a Division Trainee assigned to me, these are all the subjects that I share with them and more. I feel the Division Supervisor is one the most important and pivotal leadership development positions in fire. My goal was to create something positive and to help contribute to the development of strong Division Supervisors and Leaders.
