The Sikorsky S-70, aka: “Black Hawk”, “Pave Hawk”, “Jolly Green Giant”, “Seahawk”, “Knighthawk” is a world-wide workhorse. It’s amazing versatility and longevity served and continue to serve all branches of the U.S. military as well as many foreign nations. You might imagine that a design whose genesis is the 1970s, and which has been in operational use for nearly a half a century, would be dated and slated for retirement. Not so with the S-70 design, which continues to be adapted to the ever-changing demands of military and civil missions. The S-70 design is projected to remain in service for decades to come. This, like all titles in the “Illustrated” series is heavily oriented to the pictorial history of the aircraft. The variety of missions for this amazing helicopter translate to dozens of unique photos of the many versions of the S-70. The pictures of Navy Seahawks and Kinghhawks alone would fill a picture book, especially given the U.S. Navy tradition of unique and colorful squadron markings.
