A black woman is always censoring herself from expression. It maybe because we hide our intelligence as to not seem so righteous. It could be that we hide our emotions as to not cause hurt feelings. It could be that we just don’t think what we have to say matters. So why say it? Or it maybe as simple as, no one is listening. This is why black women are often described as LOUD. When a black women chooses to say what is on her mind, most people don’t understand that she is not raising her voice. Most people just don’t want to hear her voice at all. Any volume she chooses is deafening. This medley of poems is a release of a black woman’s silence, muted volume and screams of her inner thoughts on family, love, heartbreak and being a revolution. Take the time to actually listen and believe her. Think of all she has wanted to say, all she could not say and the words she reserves. Then, when you want to share how black women are boisterous, ghetto or too loud… inhale with compassion. Empathize with her centuries of struggles. Understand that she is not too loud, and accept that she is not loud enough.
