Fine porcelain, underglazed and fired at 2400 Degrees F 6 Oz. cup Chip resistant Dishwasher and microwave safe, not oven safe Blue Danube was inspired by designs originally popular during China's Yuan Dynasty.(160-1368 A.D.). Lipper introduced this finely detailed underglazed pattern in 1951. It is embellished with ornate floral motifs attributed to a German artist named Kandler. The unique border is patented. True to its roots, the elaborate flowers of this copperplate design depict Chinese symbols of happiness and good fortune. Produced in a Japanese factory several generations old, it is made of translucent porcelain. The enduring popularity of blue and white china has helped to ensure the longevity of Blue Danube and it is now one of the most comprehensive dinnerware patterns available in North America. The renowned Portmeirion Pottery has now taken over production of this venerable pattern.
