British secret agent James Bond is a cinematic icon who's lasted over six decades and over two dozen films. Author and film reviewer Ho Lin celebrates the 007 phenomenon in Bond Movies: A Retrospective , which provides a comprehensive overview of the Bond movies and examines why Bond still appeals to today's audiences. Bond Movies: A Retrospective is packed with details on the making of each Bond film, including the latest entry No TIme to Die as well as "unofficial" Bond movies. Featuring fun trivia and anecdotes as well as in-depth (and sometimes irreverent) commentary on each film's virtues and flaws, Bond Movies is an entertaining exploration of Bond's impact on popular culture (and vice versa), intended to be savored by Bond fans of all types—from neophytes to aficionados who are familiar with the movies and the original Ian Fleming novels. "Comprehensive in its coverage of James Bond, the movie character, this retrospective stands to impress neophytes and die hard fans alike." - Foreword Reviews (5 of 5) "James Bond has always been an escapist fantasy. As long as the escapism and the fantasy remain compelling, Bond will persist." As a long-time admirer of the James Bond films and books, Bond Movies: A Retrospective has been a labor of love for me, and I'm pleased to finally bring it into the world! My book is an affectionate tribute to the Bond films via my own critiques, taking into account the nuances of the Bond mythos, trivia from in front of the camera and behind the scenes, and how the films have influenced (and been influenced by) popular cultuure. I approach Bond using my own lens, and I freely expect that not everyone will share my views about what makes for a superior (or bad) Bond film. What I do hope is that this book will entertain, provoke some thought, and bring you back to these movies with a fresh perspective, whether you're a long-time Bond devotee or a first-time watcher. In our current age, evil can no longer be traced to a specific source, surveillance is omnipresent, and our own governments are being called into question. In such an atmosphere, one could argue that agent 007, loyal to the crown, a stubborn independent operator in a world run by data, is antiquated and hopelessly out of touch—but the fact of the matter is, Bond has always been an escapist fantasy. As long as the escapism and the fantasy remain compelling, Bond will persist. And persist it will, even as  No Time to Die  marks the end of Daniel Craig's tenure as James Bond, and yet another turning point for the film franchise. As we motor off towards a new, uncertain horizon, it seems a fitting time to reflect on what's come before, and what might happen next. "Goodbye Mr. Bond," an arch enemy often smugly informs 007, only to find that the man, and the myth, remain very much alive. So in that spirit, I say, Hello Mr. Bond.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
