This book serves as the study guide for the online class Breast Massage after Implant and Explant Plastic Surgery. Developed for massage therapists, Breast Massage after Implant and Explant Plastic Surgery focuses on evidence-based practices for using manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) and other types of massage to help clients reduce pain and swelling after breast implant surgery. The class discusses postoperative massage for different kinds of surgery, including: Breast implant surgery for cosmetic reasons, Breast implant surgery for gender affirmation / top surgery, Implant-based reconstruction after mastectomy, and Removal of breast implants (explant) for cosmetic and health reasons, including total capsulectomy for breast implant illness. This study guide provides class participants with a printed copy of some of the topics covered in class. This text also includes drawing prompts to encourage students to remember the different types of breast implant surgeries and complications as well as writing prompts designed to encourage students to record and incorporate what they have learned from their own massage clients.
