I think this is the main problem with a lot of the beginner Cantonese books that are out there; they just focus on nouns and naming things, but have very little context for how to chat with kids. The vocab you choose to include touches many different situations like when things are going "right" or "wrong" with the activities. I also like how you don't just show the nouns but verbs and phrases; it's nice to have extra vocab on the bottom that you can either come back to or use to augment the story. The pictures with each are really cute too. Having a setting like a young kids' school was nice because I have kids and it follows them through an entire day. I can learn how to say all kinds of things. (I'm somewhere between Beginner and Conversational. I know a fair amount of words but can't speak much.) (Advance Reader Feedback) Because I'm a non-native Cantonese speaker who has had to learn on his own, I noticed that all the words are high-usage words and sentence structures that are simple without being boringly repetitive. And while most of these phrases were familiar to me, not all of them were, or they were phrased differently in ways that were helpful (like to hold hands as "sau to sau" vs. what I was familiar with "to sau zai"). It is really hard to strike the right balance of a lexile level that is engaging yet teachable, and I think you did it. I also liked how you used some helpful time marking words (soon, then, after they wake up, etc.). Daniel T (Advance Reader) I loved having the extra vocabulary words along the bottom (just like in your other book). It's a great way to be able to teach/Learn more words. I am always looking for more Cantonese conversational books as this is the level of proficiency I'm hoping to teach my kids. Emily D (Advance Reader)
